a blue suit and a penney's dress.

32 years ago today, at a California wedding chapel, in a blue suit and an off the rack JC Penney's dress, my parents pledged to honor and obey each other in sickness and in health. They celebrated with a few friends and family and a potluck dinner and they were married. They were only 19 and 20 years old.

My parents will be the first to tell you they were young and dumb and they didn't know the first thing about being married. But after 32 years, they've managed to show me what an incredible marriage looks like. They've taught me, and my sister and brothers, some important lessons about what it means to honor and obey in sickness and in health. Through their marriage, I've learned about not going to bed angry, always flirting, and having kids, that way you'll always have someone to wash dishes and pick up dog poop so you don't have to. They are best friends, they are each others biggest cheerleader, and they are a great example of a transparent, God honoring marriage.

When I was getting ready to be married, all the wedding preparations had me stressed out and going crazy. I was reminded that my parents wedding was small and simple and they have one of the best marriages I know.

Nothing like a blue suit and 32 years to remind me about what really matters.

Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!
